Valentine's Day is right around the corner

When I got into work this morning, I sat down, began to answer my daily emails and voicemails, and found myself squeezing this cute red heart-shaped stress ball that we have here in the store. This was an instant reminder that Valentine's Day is just around the corner!! I bet your little one is gearing up to get ready for their school celebrations, decorating all their valentines and tasty candy treats to hand out to their teachers and friends. I remember when I was little, decorating a shoebox for everyone at school to put my valentines day treats in and finding the perfect red or pink outfit to wear (those were the days!!). But have you thought about what your little girl or boy is going to wear on that special day?! For some of you it might be time to pull out your S&G red cord bubbles, rompers, pants, and dresses from this past fall and winter :)

Today is an exciting day here on Pitt Street (for many reasons)!! First off, it is Megan and my birthdays today!! It is absolutely gorgeous outside-who doesn't love 70 degree weather in January?! We finally have samples in the store so everyone can come in, check out the clothes in person, and place an order with us to ship or for in store next-day pick up (pick up is no charge!). And last, but not least, the 50% off fall inventory sale has started in the store-we're making room for the new spring line :). I don't think today could get any better.

..I just wish I was this little again to wear this adorable cup cake dress to my birthday party!!

Gift Certificate Giveaway!!

We were thinking that we should spice things up a little bit and get everyone even more excited about the Spring 2012 line by having three $20 gift certificate giveaways this week!!!

Here's how it works:

-We tested our first giveaway yesterday. Tomorrow (Wednesday) I will be putting up a photo album on Facebook titled "Favorite BATHING SUIT/BUBBLE" and Friday will be "Favorite BOYS' OUTFIT".

-Your job is to find your favorite bathing suit/bubble in the album (Wednesday) and favorite boys' outfit (Friday).

-"Tag" yourself in ONE photo-at the right bottom it says "tag this photo", click that and type in your name and finish by clicking tag photo!

It's as simple as that!! I will then randomly choose a winner and will email you the $20 gift certificate!!!

It's catalog time!

These past few weeks have been crazy busy!! As you all know, we just received the Spring 2012 shipment- soo much to do! On top of unpacking all the boxes, organizing the clothes, and getting out your orders, I've been trying to get ready to get those precious catalogs out to everyone! Every day for the past two weeks I have been adding all of your names and addresses to a spreadsheet (those who have sent them to me). The next step is printing labels and sticking them on the almost 3,000 (ah so many!!) catalogs!!!

If you haven't already requested a catalog to be mailed to you, you can email info@shrimpandgritskids.com or click on the "request catalog" link on the website and I'll add you to the list-if you received a catalog last season, you're on this list already! I always like to have the catalog in my hand when ordering :).

We will hopefully be getting them out soon so you can place your orders and get your little ones dressed in the perfect Spring and Summer clothes!!!!

SPRING is here!!!!

After a long, long, longgg wait...our Spring 2012 line is FINALLY here!!! We watched the clock tick away all day Tuesday awaiting our large shipment (148 boxes, can you believe it?!). After what seemed like a lifetime had passed, it arrived in Charleston late afternoon and we had a big task ahead of us.. unpacking the boxes into our warehouse, organizing by styles and sizes, and finally (the most exciting part), shipping out your orders!!! And so just in case you were wondering, it is Thursday and we are STILL finishing up the whole process and beginning the fun part so you can get your pretty spring clothes asap :).

Even though it may look like a lot of boxes of clothes, they sell fast so get your orders in!! This new spring line is SO cute I can't imagine it lasting long. If you placed an order already we are expecting to start shipping out this afternoon so keep a look out for your package!!!

Trunks, trunks, trunks!!!!

After a nice trip to New York for the holidays; much needed time spent with family, friends, and getting used to the FREEZING weather.. getting back in to the swing of this has been a little difficult. Charleston welcomed me with it's beautiful 70 degree weather in late December (nothing wrong with that!) and now the frigid arctic must have come back with me and is gracing us with weather in the mid 30's!? One of the reasons I came down south was for the nice warm weather, not this! brr

Anyways, after getting back into the swing of things again, I realized that it's that time of year again...TRUNK SEASON yayy!! The first shows of the season start next week :). I know that everyone is excited to get their little ones all dressed up in our new Spring 2012 line!!! (If you haven't already, check it out on our website!) It'll be warmer sooner than you think!!
Do you want to go to a trunk show or even HOST a show (who doesn't need a little extra cash these days)...?
To simply inquire about a rep near you email scheduling@shrimpandgritskids.com and Mary (our rep coordinator) will put you in touch with the closest rep! So simple!
Interested in maybe hosting a show? (it's so simple AND you get free clothes!) First, email Mary at the same email above and she will put you in contact with the closest rep to get you set up! It really is so simple to host a show...all you have to have is a lot of friends that love smocked clothes!

There are only a few steps to take to have a party...
First- the rep will give you invitations and catalogs to send out to your friends and order forms to take orders on.
Second- the trunk will be brought to you so that all of your friends can see the clothes up close and personal! :)
Third- HAVE A PARTY!!!! (the best part!) It can be as simple as just laying the clothes out or we've had people that have a full on casual cocktail party! Your friends tell you what they want, you write it down on the order forms, and the rep comes back to pick up the trunk and forms AND YOU'RE DONE!
You may be wondering what you get out of this? (besides an excuse to have a party), right? Well you get 15% of your total sales in store credit! For example, if you sell $500, you would get $75 worth of free clothes. We take it directly off of your order from your show so it's never even charged to your card.
ANDDD- at the end of each season we email all of the reps and hostesses a 40% off discount code to use for another order. That is a lot of FREE CLOTHES (everyone's favorite!).
*The only requirements are to sell at least $500 worth of clothes and you have to place a personal order (but why wouldn't you want to after looking at clothes from our Spring 2012 line?)!
That's the low down on hosting a show so now all you have to do is get on the computer and email scheduling@shrimpandgritskids.com to get set up :)!

First things first...Happy Wednesday! I just really can't wrap my head around the fact that Christmas is this weekend! I finally got all of my Christmas shopping done yesterday (procrastination much?). In my defense, I love giving gifts so much, that it takes me forever to pick out the perfect gifts.

Moving on before I get COMPLETELY off topic- this is one of my favorite quotes and as I opened my fridge to get out a bottle of water (to take my vitamins with- go me!), I saw this quote (it's posted on my fridge for a little daily inspiration) and, today, it did it's job and inspired me to blog about this line!

I love everything about this quote. It just makes me smile. Since I was in the pink spirit today, I decided to debut this pink seersucker design. It's just for girls so it can be extra girlie! I love all of the ruffles and pink. What is it about the color light pink that makes every little girl look so sweet? (it doesn't have that effect when I wear it :)

I think my favorite part is the ruffle bubble....and everything else.

P.S. Sooooo don't cry- but tomorrow is my LAST day at Shrimp and Grits Kids :(. I guess it's finally time to be a big girl and do my full time internship, but I don't WANT to! My friend Jordan will be taking over the blog (she's so cute)- so not to worry :)

Happy Tuesday! (but more like a Wednesday because it's a short week :)!

Three years ago on Christmas, I convinced my little brother (who was 8 at the time) to use his stocking money to go to wal-mart and buy a goldfish...(my mom was less than thrilled:). His little eight-year old self named this little orange fish Henry Fred Easterling..pretty big name for a little fish, isn't it? The best part is that "Henry" is Chambers' (my little brother) first name. Much to my mother's dismay, Henry Fred Easterling is STILL alive.

I was reminded of Fred when I saw this design! I love the aqua seersucker with orange smocking...I think it is unique! I also love how the boys' design is a little different (and manlier for all those "my boy is not wearing that girlie smocked stuff" dads :)! While the girls has adorable little orange goldfish, the boys design has orange snapper (totally manly!)

It doesn't hurt that it is seersucker :)!

Happy Monday!! No Monday blues today! I just still cannot believe that Christmas is THIS weekend! I can already tell that this week is going to be crazy...don't get me wrong, I usually LOVEEEE a socially packed week, but I feel as if the holiday festivities are NEVER ending! At some point I have to finish my Christmas shopping (why is it so hard to find something for your boyfriend's parents and your dad!?...I find it impossible!) And don't even get me started on New Year's Eve! With all of this holiday madness, you MUSTTTT wonder how I have any room in my little head to think about Easter...but, oh, I do!

I absolutely love Easter! I mean, what's not to love!? Hellooo Spring, Easter lillies (my absolute favorite flower of all time), white, seersucker, linen...just to name a few! I don't know when the year came that my mom didn't spend endless days shopping for the perfect Easter dress for me...but it came and, unfortunately, my mom doesn't care what I wear on Easter (as long as it covers my shoulders, isn't too tight, doesn't show too much leg, the perfect fabric...blah,blah the list of requirements for the "appropriate" Easter outfits goes on and on...the woes of being a southern girl:)) Therefore, I am going to, once again, live vicariously through you (as you get to search for the perfect Easter outfit for your little one).

I hate to break it to you, but the search will be short because I've already found the perfect outfits (you're welcome :)! I'm absolutely obsessed with this rabbit bishop and jon jon. I mean, what little kid doesn't love Peter Cottontail!? I had the whole collection of books (I still do!) and it doesn't hurt that he makes a pretty adorable smocked design!

Looking for a more casual look during the Easter season? I love this applique look! Once again, the shirt is also a dress AND the other side is the 4th of July design you saw earlier! Such a great deal in my opinion (and I know my deals! :)!

Congratulations! Now that you have your child's Easter outfit picked out (I'm hoping you already snagged on of our adorable Christmas outfits for THIS weekend)...You have more time to focus on what YOU'RE going to wear for the holidays! You're going to read this and think "yeah, yeah, yeah...no one can be THATTTT happy!" In all seriousness, I woke up this morning feeling, honestly, just HAPPY...and it's such an awesome feeling! (I'm generally a pretty happy person, but everyone has those "not-so-happy-stay-away-from-me" days, right?) NOT TODAY! My wonderful outlook on life today might have something to do with:

a. IT'S FRIDAY!
b. It's CHRISTMAS time (still as a 24 year old, I get weirdly excited about Christmas). I just love it! Ever since I finished with exams (HELLOOOO Christmas break!), I've been seriously in the spirit! For example, last Saturday night I stayed in to drink hot chocolate and watch the Grinch (don't judge me that I also watched it on Tuesday night:) and last night after our weekly supper club, we poured solo cups of apple cider and I made everyone trek downtown Charleston to walk around Marion square and look at the lights! Obviously, the boys were miserable at first (grinches!), but then they even got into the spirit and sang Christmas songs! (Honestly, they could have been just mocking me because I was SOOOO excited about the lights..but, oh well, I'm going to just believe that they actually got into the spirit:)
c. Sometimes driving over the Cooper River Bridge in the morning to work, it still honestly amazes me how beautiful Charleston is! Obviously, this morning was one of those mornings! It's 75 degrees, the water was sparkling, and the sun was shining! (the best part is that after I get off at 12, I weaseled my way into a Friday afternoon boat ride:)

Anywho, I decided that since I was in such a "Charleston-Loving mood" this morning, I would debut the Charleston Harbor line! I loveee the light blue seersucker of this line! This design is so cute that it, honestly, speaks for itself!

Hellooooo 4th of July!

Okay, Okay...I know it's December and Christmas is next week, BUT I can't help but get excited about thinking about 4th of July! I mean, what's not to be excited about!? Beach, boats, fried chicken, fireworks...just a few of my favorite things! (I'm getting a little ahead of myself, I know! One holiday at a time, right?...)

Everyone knows that the perfect red, white, and blue 4th of July outfit is a necessity! Those pictures last a lifetime you know..;). Not to fret pet, Shrimp and Grits kids has PLENTY to make sure your little one is the best dressed at the picnic, beach party, or wherever you spend your holiday (to each his own, right?)

Looking at all of the Spring 2012 designs, I chose a few that, I personally, think are perfect for this fabulous holiday (AND the rest of the year). You've already seen the Shrimp line (go back a few posts) and it's obviously perfect for 4th of July! (Anything red or blue seersucker is PERFECT in my opinion).

Another one that I LOVEEE is the anchor line (see below!). The blue seersucker check with red anchors and lobsters are perfect for 4th of July and all summer long! I think my favorite pieces are the bathing suit (it doesn't hurt that Lyla Gray is hopelessly cute) and the shirt/dress! The shirt/dress is awesome because since it can be a shirt OR a dress, you can buy it now as a dress and in a year or two, wear it as a shirt!

Another favorite is the reversible 4th of July/ Easter design! Once again, I LOVE the shirt/dress (way to get a bang for your buck, right!?) It's a reversible shirt/dress! I'm pretty sure that qualifies as FOUR different outfits in one! The opposite side is an Easter print, but that'll come in a different post...Gotta keep you on your toes, ya know ;)

Get Invited to a Par-tayyy!

I just love a good party...I really do. I,honestly, get more excited about planning a party than I do actually attending it (Strange, I know). I just can't help it though! I love planning out what apps and drinks to have, what place settings to use (if it is a rare dinner), what music to play, EVERYTHING! It's just so exciting! It's one of the reasons that I love the holiday season...parties GALORE! Actually, I can find about any reason to have a party.... "It's Wednesday!?..we should celebrate"! :)

For this reason- I woke up super excited this morning because tonight is our second annual Secret Santa ornament exchange! My friends and I from college started this tradition last year and it's so fun! It's like a secret santa but it's only ornaments! (the nicer ones that you hate buying for yourself but look so pretty on the tree:). It think it all started because we realized that once we "grow up" (24 is obvioulsy not grown up), get married, and have a tree to decorate-it'd be nice to actually have some pretty ornaments! So, we all get together, make apps, drink wine(/champagne), and exchange ornaments! SO fun!

Anywho, I'm totally off subject (as usual!). The party I'm supposed to be talking about is even better than the ornament exchange because you get CLOTHES! (minus the tiny detail that you have to pay for them :)! We got our spring 2012 invitations in the mail yesterday and they are so cute! With all of the precious previews I've been posting, I know you're just dying to see them in person and go to a party! Soooo...here's what you do!

Preppy Alligators!

Those of you who have been shopping at Shrimp and Grits Kids for years know that Megan always does an "alligator" design (and it always is one of our most popular!)

Every year, the alligators are a little different while also continuing to be one of her signatures. I have to admit- after the Santa Alligator design (which, by the way is still available for Christmas on www.shrimpandgritskids.com), I didn't think I could like one more...BUT, once again, she proved me wrong (what's new :) and I have a NEW favorite! I don't know whether it is the styles she included-like the bow back dress or the new bubble or the preppy aspect of it that I like more...I guess I just like it all ;)!

I love how some of the cutest smocked animals are the scariest in real life. Have you ever thought about that? I mean, who looks at a jelly fish, shrimp, or alligator and says "awwww, how cute!". If you do- more power to you- but, in my opinion, they are anything BUT cute....UNTIL they are smocked onto an outfit!

All this talk about Spring and Summer has got me in the mood for sunshine and water. Too bad it's only December :)! Back to focusing on Christmas, boots, coats, and snow... I guess...

Luckily, I can still get my warm weather fix through talking about summer clothes :)

Two seasons ago, Megan discovered that she could design her own fabric (like she needs anything to make her even MORE creative) and, since then, her original designs have been some of my absolute favorites (for example, the paisley fabric this season)!

Obviously, this "sadie" design is NO exception. Its' just so pretty and sweet! It's absolutely PERFECT for Easter or a Spring or Summer wedding. I just love this print- if they could make it in my size- I would wear it!

I just love all of the ruffles and bows...I just don't know what my favorite is! The bubble or the bow-back dress!

Jiggly Jellyfish!

I am going to be honest with you. I was seriously skeptical of this design!

It could have something to do with the fact that I am deathly allergic to jelly fish....two summers ago I was innocently enjoying a boat day when my best friend and I both got stung. Actually, he got stung first and since I was hanging on his back- he yelled and threw me right into it (Pretty chivalrous, right?:) Oh, Don't worry- he was fine...his leg looked completely normal after two days while I looked like a serious burn victim for three weeks . It was horrible! Not to mention that it was 100 degrees here so my poor, red, inf lammed stung legs were always showing (I think I'm still recovering from the emotional devastation :) To me, jelly fish are like the mosquitoes of the sea. I mean, WHAT good do they do!? I'm obviously not a marine biologist so maybe I'm not completely educated on this subject, but it looks to me that all they do is make little children (and me) run out of the water crying. So when Megan mentioned doing a jellyfish line, it was hard for me to get over my extreme hatred for these nasty creatures. I honestly couldn't imagine how to make these THINGS cute (I'm getting all feisty just thinking about them).

Of course, as usual, she proved me wrong! If jelly fish were this cute, I might, slowly begin to get over my extreme loathing.

I love so much about this design!
1. I love the light green seersucker (duh!)
2. The last dress shown is ALSO a top! For instance, a size 2t dress would fit a 6 year old as a top (pair it with our white pique capris :)!
3. I am OBSESSED with the one piece bathing suit...(I love a good ruffle, you know!)

So, maybe I'm slowly starting to re-think my position on jelly fish.....

Spring 2011 Previews BEGIN!

Confession: I have mixed feelings about this line. I'm SO excited because I honestly think it's Megan's cutest, most original line yet, BUT I'm also sad because it is the last line I get to preview :( After working here for two years, I finally have to go to a full-time internship for graduate school. I guess I should take on the "glass is half full" attitude and just be excited, eh?

Honestly, I'm obsessed with this whole line. It's going to be hard for me just to preview one design at time, but patience is a virtue, right?

This design is one of my favorites, but the reason that I decided to preview it first is because, duh, it has SHRIMP! What design is better to preview SHRIMP AND GRITS kids Spring 2012 line than the Shrimp and Fiddler Crab Line!? Personally, I love Shrimp... shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp and grits, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp...you can cook shrimp about any which way ;). I never knew that shrimp could be cute though. Have you ever seen a live shrimp?...they look like demons! Far, far from Cute! But, OF COURSE, Megan can make a shrimp adorable!

These outfits are so perfect for summer for numerous reasons:

1. They are seersucker (y'all know how much I love seersucker)
2. They are red, white, and blue (HELLOOO 4th of July!)
3. I love any kind of ruffle fanny (just wait until you see the girl's bubble)...I'm obsessed.

Okay, Okay I know I'm rambling (I have a bad habit of doing that)..and I know y'all are dying to see...so drumroll...

Seriously, how cute is this line!? My favorite part is the girl's bubble (obviously!). I think that the ruffles on the fanny and cross back are so so cute (not to mention that the little girl is so cute that I just want to SQUEEZE her)!

Hello Friends!

Happy Friday! I just love a good Friday! I wonder what it is about a Friday that is just so wonderful?...I especially love a rare weekend like this one where I am not traveling and have no commitments! (except for fun ones :)

Anywho, GUESS WHAT! Our complete fall line goes on sale this afternoon! How exciting is that? Everything in the store AND online will be on sale! My expert recommendation would be to go ahead and stock up on Christmas gear! As some of you know, things sell out quickly and Christmas is coming up sooner than you think....(even though I am not down with all the Christmas tunes before Thanksgiving- one holiday at a time, please!)

Okay, SOOOO I know that I mentioned this yesterday, but I just got so excited that I needed to talk about it again! As I've stated previously, football season is one of my favorite times of the year! I mean, what is not to love about good food, drinks, and friends? (the actual game is actually only a side note in my opinion:) It's like a fabulous reason to celebrate EVERY Saturday! Maybe I'm just biased because I went to Clemson University and in a town like Clemson we really don't have much else to do BUT focus on football (and baseball and basketball). I still have to stop myself from buying every orange thing that I walk by (I'm living in the past, I know..).
Everyone knows that the biggest game of the year here in South Carolina is the Clemson vs. South Carolina game! We plan our outfits a few weeks in advance (or if you're like me and have an abundance of orange clothes that don't look cute anywhere but a Clemson game, you pick from one of the many lonely dresses in the closet :)!
Now, the only thing that could make this even more fun is if I had a tiny one to dress for the games too! I was definitely one of those little girls running around in a cheerleader costume (I desperately wanted to be a cheerleader until it became apparent that I am the most uncoordinated person on the planet...my tiny little dreams were crushed). Even now, and as a freshman, at Clemson, my friends and I would stare at the cute little children wearing their Clemson gear frolicking around the tailgates. (total child envy).
Even if you aren't fortunate enough to be a Clemson fan ;), you know that you still have a big game to go to and, lucky for you, WE have the perfect outfit for your little one to wear!

So, hurry and get to shopping so you have more time to make pigs in a blanket, buffalo chicken dip, chicken salad, ham sandwiches (can you tell I'm getting a little overly excited? :)

Hi friends! Happy NOVEMBER! (Isn't that crazy!? I feel like I was JUST blogging about 4th of July yesterday!) It is FINALLY feeling like Fall here in Mt. Pleasant! This morning it was 60 degrees..(bring out the winter coats :)! November brings some of my favorite things- a.k.a. Thanksgiving and the USC/ Clemson game! BOTH of which require an appropriate, yet cute (obviously) outfit! Not to worry- I already have mine picked out (even though I'd be much happier wearing a bishop dress on Thanksgiving...more breathing room! :)

So, on the topic of bishop dresses and other types of adorable smocked clothing, have YOU decided what your little ones will be wearing on Thanksgiving or to the Clemson/Carolina game? (even if you're not a die hard Clemson or Carolina fan- you know that you still have a favorite :)! Those holiday pictures last for a life-time, you know. Do you really want your son or daughter looking back when they are 24 and asking "why in the world you dressed them in those tacky clothes!?" Didn't think so! :) Personally, I would recommend the fall bishop/longall or the turkey reversible jumper or longall! Obviously, for the big game I am recommending the Tiger or South Carolina bishop or longall!

Hello all! So sorry I have been SO M.I.A. lately! In my measly defense-- our backorder came in (which means shipping and returns GALORE) and we had our sample sale which was CRAZY (but still so fun)! Hope that you can find it in your hearts to forgive me one day :)

The good news is, somewhere during my long absence, it became FALL! Hellooooo jeans, boots,and sweaters :)! I've already carved a pumpkin (the Clemson one is mine- pretty good, eh?), officially busted out my boots (I'm obsessed), and planned my Halloween costume (You're never too old to dress up, right!?)

SAMPLE SALE!!

I know that this announcement is long awaited for some of you...THE SAMPLE SALE DATE IS OFFICIALLY OCTOBER 14th!! WHOO! It will begin at 10 a.m. and go until 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at the base of the Cooper River Bridge (same place as last year)!

For those of you who aren't familiar with our sample sale....have you ever seen those t.v. shows about the sample wedding dresses where people are pushing each other to get in and going crazy? Picture that with children's clothes! :) People are literally LINED up to get inside :)....(it's a little insane, but totally worth it!)

Confused at to what a sample is? Not to worry, I'll tell you! A sample is an article of clothing that traveled around in the trunks for reps and customers to see. They are marked down because even though they technically aren't "used" (no one has actually worn them around town)- they have been possibly tried on and have traveled around the south east! Also, all of our regular inventory will be there as well (still marked down, but just not QUITE as much as the samples!)

Our sample sale is a great way to find awesome deals on smocked clothes! (the craziness isn't TOO bad either- just be ready to be a tad bit aggressive for that outfit that you've been dying for :)!

Tigertown bound

I don't know if I've mentioned before, but I graduated from Clemson University in 2009 (it was quite the depressing day)...so I am now on what I like to call "my junior year of life" :). Anywho, anyone that knows me knows that I am not the biggest football fan. Don't get me wrong, I love going to games (only to tailgate and wear a cute dress) and to watch games on tv (only in a social situation involving good food and drinks) and THIS weekend I am trekking up to Clemson for the Clemson/Auburn game! Even though it's a little different not actually being a student (I don't get to causally walk home after I've had my fill of tailgating or wear a cute "tri-delta loves the tigers" sticker)...I'm still super excited!

So, after I completely stressed myself out figuring out what to wear (I have to look cute at my Clemson debut this season :)...my thoughts obviously drifted to what my child would wear...if I had one (I'm a little crazy..I know :)

But you know what I realized!? Whether you're pulling for Clemson OR Auburn- YOUR LITTLE ONE COULD WEAR THE SAME OUTFIT! How genius is that!?... I wish picking out MY outfit was that easy :)

We Monogram!!!

HUGE, FANTASTIC, BEST-NEWS-EVER news!! You all know how terrible I am at keeping secrets, but I've been keeping this secret for forever (or that's how long it feels like it's been!)

Drum roll....

SHRIMP AND GRITS KIDS NOW MONOGRAMS!

We've been working so hard on this! We've always had the idea that offering monogramming would be a great idea, but we just really didn't know how to go about it...that is, until Megan's brother's girlfriend (hard to keep up, huh?) decided to start a monogramming company and base it out of Shrimp and Grits Kids! She's been working like a crazy person on this book...not to worry, all of her hard work paid off because it looks AWESOME!

Unfortunately, this service is only offered for in-store purchases...sorry all of you online shoppers...we just haven't figured out how to offer it online yet! (maybe one day though!:)

Personally, I love a monogram- always have, always will! When I was little, my grandmother owned this mongraming company called Carolina Canvas so everything I had was monogrammed...(bedspreads, pillows, shower curtains, luggage, towels, jewelry holders, makeup bags...you name it and it was monogrammed)! My mom made me wear those little panties with the ruffle around the leg and monogram on the back until 3rd grade...(it was a tad embarrassing at the time :)!

Obviously, I'm all little over-excited about this...Megan actually had to stop me because I started suggesting ridiculous things to be monogrammed :).

The way it works is simple! You just come into the store and buy a dress, shirt, shorts, longall (whatever floats your boat). Then, you fill out the monogram form, leave it with us, and you'll get a call as soon as it is ready. The only catch is that you do have to pay seperately (cash or check) for the monogram seeing how Shrimp and Grits Kids is not directly doing this or making a profit! We are just simply offering it because we love how much cuter a monogram can make an outfit!

So, come in and get something monogrammed!! YAY!!!

Shrimp and Grits Kids in Skirt!

So, as I walk into work today, I literally almost trip over a pile of "Skirt!" magazines...(I'm a tad bit clumsy) :)! I just love "skirt!" magazine. It is a magazine just for women of Charleston, S.C....it features the most fab places to eat and shop, healthy lifestyle tips, and the most fun events of the month..(all three of my favorite things to do, in other words!)

Obviously, almost tripping over this pile made my Thursday morning! As I walked in, put my things down, and immediately got distracted by the magazine (sorry work :)...I saw that WE were featured in the magazine with an ad! As I've mentioned before, I'm a tad bit excitable, so I immediately took a picture and sent it to Megan and her response was, "Lee, we've been running ads in Skirt! for a while"...wayyy to bust my Thursday morning bubble :)! Anywho, I'm always looking for exciting things at Shrimp and Grits Kids to blog about- and today, Skirt! magazine wins!

Also, in case you've forgotten, it is almost LABOR DAY WEEKEND! A.k.a.- a three day weekend! You better get all the wear out of your seersucker, linen, and white- after Monday- they are moved to the back of the closet...sad day :)!

I am so excited to announce that today I woke up and it was only 80 degrees on my way to work! Even better- the high today is only 90 degrees! Some of you are probably breaking into a sweat thinking of 90 degrees, but here in Mount Pleasant, it feels amazing! Like fall is actually going to come one day...

Children are back in school...Ella's first day of 1st grade was today (Megan said that she did great at drop off..YAY ELLA!), my little brother started his first day of JUNIOR HIGH yesterday (crazy!), and I start back next week!...it's really just too much! To make myself feel better, I decided that nothing REALLY changes until Labor Day. After Labor Day, summer is officially over in my book.

Labor Day marks the end of seersucker, white, and linen in the south. Those are definitely some of my favorite fabrics and I feel a little sad thinking that in a few weeks it'll be time to move them to the back of my closet. BUT, with every end comes a new, exciting beginning, right!? So, the wonderful, cool fabrics of seersucker and linen are replaced with one of my favorite fabrics...CORDUROY! Corduroy is so soft and comfortable that it almost makes me yearn for the cold weather. So, in honor of one of my favorite fall fabrics...this blog is all about corduroy!

According to Wikepedia:

Corduroy is a textile composed of twisted fibers that, when woven, lie parallel (similar to twill) to one another to form the cloth's distinct pattern, a "cord." So yesterday afternoon I was bored in class (no offense to my professors, but five hours is a long time in one chair :)...so around hour three I started browsing the Internet for inspirational quotes to get me through the next two hours of staring at parts of the brain (don't judge me)...and I came across this wonderfully whimsical quote:

"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living."- Dr. Seuss.

This quote just secretly made me feel like a little kid all over again. I mean, seriously...what fun is life without a little bit of nonsense? I wanted to just leap out of my chair and start singing or playing dress-up. (I wouldn't REALLY do that, but I was a tad delirious at this point!)
Naturally, after a few seconds of thinking, my mind turned to Shrimp and Grits Kids and I thought how perfect this quote matched our fairy tale line! Nothing says "fantasy" more than castles and princesses! Personally, my favorite princess was always Jasmine and if it was socially acceptable to wear a dress with princesses all over it at age 23...I totally would! Sadly, it isn't...so, once again I will live vicariously through all of y'all with little girls to dress :)!

I started brainstorming all the things that this line is perfect for..and the list was endless! Your birthday, a friend's birthday, first day of school, school pictures, play dates, or just any old day (I mean, who doesn't love to feel like a princess every day?)...I'm just saying...if I had a little girl this line would be a necessity for her!

As I've said before, the first day of school was a pretty big deal in my house when I was little. My brother and I had to have the perfect "back to school" matching outfits and those pictures from our first days of school are still hanging up in various places around our house :)! TAX FREE FUN!!!

Seriously, who doesn't love to save a little bit of money these days? Well, if you do, this weekend is the perfect opportunity!
Honestly, I've never been a big fan of tax free weekend....or black Friday...or anything like that. Not because I don't like to save money- I DO!, but because I absolutely hate the crowds and standing in line! (silly, I know). It was seriously a blessing when I found out that you could still shop tax free online with so many companies...and, yes, Shrimp and Grits Kids is one of them! Starting at midnight tonight (give or take a few minutes...our minds aren't too sharp at that time of night :) everything will be tax free on our website! WOOHOO!

Season Kickoff!!!

I know I've said this a trillion times (I just get so excited that I can't help it!)...one of my favorite things, without a doubt, about fall is FOOTBALL SEASON! I spent the last week feeling pretty bummed about summer coming to an end and then this light bulb just went off in my head and I realized that football season officially starts in ONE MONTH FROM TODAY!! (or at least Clemson's does...and isn't that the only one that matters?:) I'm kidding, I'm kidding...one of my best friends went to UGA and spent the entire time at dinner last night telling me about her labor day plans in Atlanta for the big game! I have another friend that went to Auburn and he seriously won't be quiet about their upcoming season (I know, I know...if Clemson had a national championship from last season to brag about...I'd be way more obnoxious :) So, long story short, I know for a fact that Clemson fans aren't the only excited ones!

I mean, I've been out of school since May of 2009 and I just got over the serious urge to buy everything I see in orange thinking that I MIGHT need it for a game...sad? Maybe! BEST DAY EVER!

Okay, you know those mornings when you just wake up smiling!? Well, today is one of those days! I've spent some time this morning contemplating why I'm so happy and I came up with a few different possible reasons:

A. It's Thursday! (a.k.a. basically the weekend!)
B. It's FINALLY sunny after four straight days of rain. In my opinion, four days of dreary rain is enough to bum anyone out (unless you're a tree:)
C. WE FINISHED LABELING THE CATALOGS yesterday!

I think option C. makes me smile the most. Seriously- my wrist is literally sore from all that sticking. Knowing that the boys were coming today to pick up the 3000+ catalogs and take them to the post office is enough to make anyone here at Pitt Street absolutely giddy! (AND I actually have room around my desk to move without tripping over a box of catalogs!) People shopping in the store probably think we're a little crazy because we're just smiling away...(kind of creepy I guess:)...but, oh well!

The good news for you is if you requested one (and over 3,000 of you did)- you'll get it either tomorrow or next week! YAY! So be looking for it...just sayin :)

It's Fall on Pitt Street!

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about today. I walked into work and two things happened:

1. I set off the alarm and the police came (GREATTT way to start off the day:)
2. I looked around and realized that the store looked completely different!

Some time in between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.- the spring line went on center racks and the fall line took over the store. I mean, the fall line looks AWESOME in the store (obviously :)! so I guess the mixed feelings come from my selfish want for summer to last forever. Don't get me wrong...I love fall (my birthday, football, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve, Valentine's Day..just a few of my favorite things :), but their is just something about summer that makes me smile. It could be the sun, the water, the boat, 4th of July, Memorial Day, watermelon...who knows! I've just never been one to really like change I suppose :)...BUT this is a great change! I've been talking about the fall line for so long that it's so exciting to actually see it on the racks in the store! The warm, soft feel of corduroy is actually getting me pretty excited about the colder weather...and doing a little shopping of my own :)

I know the fall line is old news to you online shoppers, but to our local store shoppers this is big news! You can actually come into the store, see the line, try it on, and BUY! How awesome would it be to be set for all your fall activities in JULY!? (pretty awesome if you're a planner like me)...AND, not to mention, that getting your childrens' shopping out of the way gives you more time to shop for yourself...! :)

I feel like it's absolutely crazy to be shopping for fall when it is still July, but things are ALREADY going on backorder online! A.k.a- better hurry, stop reading this, and get to shopping!

Catalog Cramps

So- no one hate me! I know I've been slacking on the blog this week, but I have a good excuse! Promise!

After we made "last call" for catalogs, I came in the next day to 100 catalog requests! By the end of the week- we had a list totaling over 3,000 catalog requests!...do you know how many days of constant label sticking that is!? Apparently more than I assumed! For the last week, my life has been consumed by sorting and sticking labels (believe me- I'd rather be writing on the blog :!) I mean, of course I'm absolutely THRILLED that so many people are interested, but I wouldn't die if I never had to stick another label again :)!

I'm good with my word (or I try to be!) so to make it up to you- FACEBOOK CONTEST! (You know I love a good contest). Honestly, it was Megan's idea just to ask for a little feedback on the fall line, but being as competitive as I am...of course I wanted to make it into a contest! Local Luxuries!

We love and will always love our Internet buyers and customers that aren't local, but one of the perks of being local is our store (duh :). They have the pleasure of walking in, picking something out, and BOOM- they are done and off to the next activity (wearing super cute clothes).

Another perk (besides getting to see us) is our little addition to our store...and the one thing in the store that is NOT Shrimp and Grits Kids.... TEMPLETON SILVER! Rhett (the founder and owner) is one of Megan's good friends and so, of course, we were dying to have some of her things in our store (it doesn't hurt that they are absolutely precious).
A little background:

Rhett began this business in 2007 (same year as Megan :) when her children's pacifiers continued to fall out. They fall out, she has to clean them, and sometimes throw them away...(Annoying). SO, being creative (how all these people got this creative gene and I got nothing doesn't really seem fair, does it?) she decided to come up with something that appeals to both Mom and baby and also keeps the pacifier off of the floor. The result?

Catalog Last call!

Happy Monday! I always feel like I'm so tired on Mondays- I might just love the beach a little too much on the weekends :)!..so it always helps to have a little bit of exciting news to start the week with!

Ready!?...Catalogs are finally going out this week! We literally have 1,890 catalogs to send out already (I'm not even exaggerating-promise!) That is A LOT of stickers to stick on catalogs, but we're so excited that so many people want to see it! I bet Mike (our catalog designer) is the most excited of all...you have NO idea how long he spends getting our catalog ready. He's quite the perfectionist (which is great for us, right?) We know that it is always easier to see the clothes on actual children (especially super cute ones) so it's definitely understandable why so many people want a copy of the catalog to themselves! :)

So, the bad news is this is last call for catalog requests! You have until Tuesday night to get on our website (www.shrimpandgritskids.com) and request a catalog! Then, you can flip through every page on your own time and plan the perfect outfit for every occasion...I mean, I do it and I don't even have children...pathetic? Well, not really (it's still 90 degrees outside), but here at Shrimp and Grits Kids it is!

Our fall line is officially up and ready on the website! AKA- You can buy it online and it will ship out within a day or two! YAY! What a perfect ending to a long weekend...I don't know about y'all, but while I absolutely love a long weekend, it definitely makes the next week a little tougher. (My old self isn't made for three straight days of celebrating! :)

We're FAMOUS!

I wish I could say that I am famous for just being me (roll out the red carpet)...but no. Unfortunately, just Shrimp and Grits Kids is (but since I work for them, doesn't that make me famous by second degree? I'm going with yes.)
One of the perks of one of my best friends, Megan Chandler, being the Lifestyle editor of the Charleston Mercury is that I get sneak peeks of the new paper! (especially if one of us is in it!) I've only personally been featured in the paper twice (such a social butterfly) but Megan Hewitt (all the Megans can get confusing- I KNOW!) has had entire articles done on her. And why shouldn't she? She started this little "at-home" smocked clothing business in 2007 and now has over 72 representatives all over the southeast and a new store front...That's definitely more than I've done in the last five years...(unless you count graduating from college, moving to Charleston, going to graduate school, and working...but that's another story :))!

When Megan first told me about opening the store, the first thing that came to my mind was "let's have an opening party!" (typical). Megan, knowing how much I love to plan a party, just smiled and said "go for it". So, we planned this party, got champagne, cupcakes, and guess what?...it had to be on a Tuesday night when I had CLASS! (it was a class learning about all the different mental illnesses and all I could think was that I was seasonally depressed because I wanted to be at the party :))!
So, long story short, it was like rubbing salt into an open wound when my friend sent me the pdf of the Charleston Mercury and pictures from the party are front page :(! After I pouted about not being in the pictures for a bit, I got over myself and became thrilled for Megan! The store looks awesome, they look awesome...all in all, if I didn't absolutely love them- I'd hate them :)!

How awesome do they look...it's okay to be jealous...I won't tell! ;)

Two for one? Yes, Please!

I love everything that is "two for one". If I see a sign at the grocery store that says "buy one get one free", I'm definitely that sucker that buys it,...even if I don't need it. OR a happy hour with "two for one appetizers"...am I hungry enough for two? NO! Do I order two because I can? YES! I just can't pass up a deal...I haven't seen very many adult clothes that are reversible, but if I did, I would probably buy it because I can! I actually do have a bathing suit that is reversible and I wear it all the time! Mid-day outfit change? Don't mind if I do...

Not to fret, we have so many things coming this fall that are "two for one"/reversible. Think about it! If you're going on vacation for a week- you would only have to take three or four dresses and still be able to wear a different (and adorable) outfit every day! (sounds pretty good to me!)...

Take your pick from the ones below..(and then run home to brag to the hubby about how much money you saved!!....orrrr just go buy something for yourself and leave out that little detail...:)

Trunk Time!

It's that time of year again! TRUNK SEASON! The first shows start next week!!! We are so excited because it means that the Fall 2011 line is officially here!

Do you want to go to a trunk show or even HOST a show (who doesn't need a little extra cash these days)...?
To simply inquire about a rep near you email scheduling@shrimpandgritskids.com and Mary(our rep leader) will put you in touch with the closest rep! So simple!

Interested in maybe hosting a show? (it's so simple AND you get free clothes!) First, email Mary at the same email above and she will put you in contact with the closest rep to get you set up! It really is so simple to host a show...all you have to have is a lot of friends that love smocked clothes!

First- the rep will give you invitations and catalogs to send out to your friends and order forms to take orders
Second- she will bring you the trunk so that all of your friends can see the clothes up close and personal! :)
Third- HAVE A PARTY!!!! (the best part!) It can be as simple as just laying the clothes out or we've had people that have a full on casual cocktail party! (I'd definitely be more inclined to buy a bunch of clothes after a few cocktails....but that's just me :) Your friends tell you what they want, you write it down on the order forms, and the rep comes back to pick up the trunk and forms AND YOU'RE DONE!

So I bet you're wondering what you get out of this (besides an excuse to have a party), right? Well you get 15% of your total sales in store credit! For example, if you sell $500, you would get $75 worth of free clothes. We take it directly off of your order from your show so it's never even charged to your card.
ANDDD- at the end of each season we email all of the reps and hostesses a 40% off discount code to use for another order. That is a lot of FREE CLOTHES (my favorite kind!)

The only requirements are to sell at least $500 worth of clothes and you have to place a personal order (but why wouldn't you want to?)!

SUMMER TIME HOLIDAYS!!

Seriously, tomorrow is just the FIRST day of summer! When I woke up at 7 a.m. this morning, it was already 88 degrees! I don't know about y'all, but that feels pretty summery to me! I spent the entire weekend on the beach and boat in Beaufort, S.C. and I'm pretty sure that it could not have felt more like summer...If it gets much hotter I might just collapse...:)!

Since tomorrow is OFFICIALLY the first day of summer, it's time to make sure that your little one has EVERYTHING that they need! Fourth of July is only a couple of weeks away and we definitely have plenty of adorable outfits and bathing suits to make sure that your little one is the best dressed at whatever party you are going to! Personally, my ideal Fourth of July would include spending time in the sun (boat or beach) and then going to a fabulous cookout that night! After you figure out what you are going to do to celebrate- the next step is to find out what you are going to wear! (The sooner you find something for your little one to wear..the more time you can spend on yourself!)

Football fanatics!

One of my favorite things about fall (okay, it may be THE favorite thing) is FOOTBALL SEASON!! I will be honest- I can't remember the last time I actually walked into a game so definitely don't peg me as that girl that dresses in a jersey and stays in the game for all four excruiating quarters. I much prefer wearing a cute dress and tailgating during the game. All of my friends made fun of me during college because I was definitely that girl who woke up at 8 a.m. ready to tailgate! Tailgating includes all of my favorite things: cute clothes, good food, friends, and drinks...i mean, what's not to love? I guess it depends on where you go to school...I graduated from Clemson University where tailgating was EVERYTHING! My parents also went to Clemson so I grew up going to games (and actually having to go in..yuck). Confession: I went through a tomboy stage...so don't judge my seven year old self, but I always wanted to wear a Clemson jersey to the games (my poor mother)! I am sure that my mother would have LOVED this line (even though I probably would not have worn it).

If you're like me and love going to football games and tailgating, you know that it is tough finding a cute outfit that matches the team colors! USC girls have it easy (black!) but Clemson girls...orange?...it's a little tough to find! So, great news! With this line, you can spend less time on finding an outfit for your little ones and more time finding the perfect outfit for YOU! (definitely a win,win situation)

So obviously I'm a little biased towards Clemson, but I love all of the other team designs too! Not to worry- we didn't forget the boys! Every bishop has a matching longall!

Catalog Crazies!

I am SO excited! A. It's Thursday (Thursdays are the best day next to Friday and Saturday!) B. One more day until I'm Beaufort bound C. We have an official proof of the Fall 2011 catalog...ANDDD I'm about to show you! (lucky ducks!).

It looks so AWESOME! Mike, our official photographer, puts together our catalog and I seriously think that this is the best one yet! It takes him so much time to photograph the kids (can you imagine over 20 children running around trying to get their pictures taken at the same time!?) and then he has to put the pictures in the best places and label each picture with the right name and product code. INTENSE.

I won't keep you waiting anymore! TA-DA

Baby Blue!

The store has officially opened successfully! It seriously is SO nice to work somewhere clean and use a real bathroom! (see YA porta-potty! :)! The store is light blue and white (exhibit A below!), so to celebrate the GRAND OPENING today...I decided to continue with the light blue corduroy theme and begin previewing the holidays tomorrow! I absolutely love light blue and was thrilled to find out that Megan does too (I guess great minds think alike!) The colors in my bedroom are light blue and light yellow and I think that they are just the happiest colors! (I guess I am a tad biased...but oh well.)

Doesn't it look AWESOME!? We are so excited about it! We have so much on clearance and, of course, all of our regular inventory is on sale!
SO, to celebrate the store- I'm previewing the light blue corduroy line! I just love the classic look of these!... I also think any of these would be even more adorable with a monogram. :)

My favorite is definitely the light blue corduroy ruffle shirt dress.. how cute is that with a little pair of brown boots!? This line also matches perfectly with the snowflake and deer smocking so everyone can wear something different yet matching at the same time!

So, I have good news and bad news! Good news: I am officially sitting at Pitt Street typing this! YAY for the store opening tomorrow! Bad news: our internet is shady at best. It keeps going in and out and we are working like crazy trying to fix it!

I just don't feel right about rushing a preview! It just wouldn't be as fun! So, no preview today...but I will be back tomorrow starting HOLIDAY PREVIEWS! YAY!!!!

Snow Days!

It is seriously 100 degrees outside...that is just too hot for comfort. It almost makes even walking outside miserable. Don't get me wrong- I love Summer weather. Nothing is better than a hot day on the beach or boat! BUT, nothing is worse than a hot day wearing work clothes and breaking into a sweat just walking to your car. Days like this make me almost long for snow. Every winter, I say the same exact thing: "I can't wait for it to be cold outside so I can light a fire and snuggle up with hot chocolate". Does that ever actually happen? No. A- I don't have a fire place and B- I don't even like hot chocolate! Sometimes I wonder about myself.

Back to snow- the worst part about winter for me is the clothes. What do I wear that is cute without looking like a blimp because I have on so many layers? It's a lose, lose situation.... I can either dress cutely and freeze to death or look large and in charge. Decisions, decisions.. I can't really help YOU with this major issue :), but I can help you dress your child! Exhibit A:

Okay, so it may not be the most practical to prance around in the actual snow in the dress (go with the snow clothes), but this is PERFECT for those cold winter days. The best part is that it is corduroy! Corduroy is one of my favorite winter fabrics (besides Cashmere..but cashmere should probably be saved for those who don't change sizes twice a year :)! I also love the light blue- It's just perfect for Winter! This line has so many pieces that Kate Gosselin could probably find a different outfit for each of her 8 kids :)! If you love the traditional bishop style- this bishop is precious, but if you are more into pants and tops- I love the white bishop top and blue corduroy ruffle pants!

Okay, don't get too excited but I am about to show you something that we've NEVER done! I get so many requests for something that tiny babies can wear. When I say tiny, I mean NEWBORNS. It makes sense- newborns are people too, right!? :) Who says that they shouldn't be able to match their big brothers and sisters? So...TA-DA!

How sweet is this little day gown? It's made for boys and girls and only comes in 3 and 6 month. NOW everyone can match. Perfect!
Don't freak out- we didn't forget the boys! Their outfit is my favorite part (and I always like to save the best for last!)

How cute are these? They match perfectly with the girls' snowflakes, but are also "manly" with the deer! :)! So, if you have a newborn, girl, and boy...you are SET!

All this Winter talk is making me want Winter...I just have to keep thinking about how fun the boat and beach are! I'm also heading to Beaufort, S.C. this weekend and will definitely be spending time on the boat so I suppose I should be brainstorming what bathing suit I should wear over what I want to purchase for the winter weather...but it's never too early to start planning, right?

On another SUPER exciting note! Shrimp and Grits Kids is OFFICIALLY OPENING on Wednesday the 15th! We will be open from 10-5 so come see us!!!!! It looks so awesome in there...(you have no idea how much fun I had dressing the manikins..probably a little TOO much...)

Birthday Babies!

Anyone that knows me knows that I absolutely LOVE birthdays! Seriously, if I could have my life any way I wanted it (even though it's pretty great the way it is) every day would be my birthday or at least a good friend's birthday! Birthdays are the ultimate reason for celebration- and the best part is that the celebration is all about YOU! That's the difference between a birthday and Christmas or Thanksgiving- they are all reasons to celebrate, but on your birthday everybody is celebrating YOU (and, seriously, how great is that!?) Growing up, it always seemed that my brother and I had joint birthday parties and I HATED IT! First of all, I always had to compromise so that it was something that we both wanted to do (for example- a pool party). No princess parties for me because "boys don't like princesses". Maybe that's why I'm so obsessed with my birthday now (thanks Mom :). Second, boys had to be there! From ages five through ten I was not the keenest on boys- I much prefered an all girls party (sometimes all girls parties are STILL the most fun!).
Other than the joint parties- birthdays were always a HUGE deal in my house (I seriously think this is why I still make such a huge deal of them now)! The day would begin with "L" shaped pancakes and presents before school and continue on to a "special lunch" and cupcakes for my class at school and end with dinner wherever I wanted. Birthdays are just one of those days where you fall soundly asleep at night exhausted but with a content, happy smile.
Other than the parties (MY FAVORITE), the cake, and the presents- the other most important thing is, obviously, the outfit. I seriously wonder what age it is that birthdays stop being so absolutely fabulous? My mom and dad always seem to hate their birthdays so I always thought that when you "grow up" birthdays just aren't as exciting, but if that is true- I must not be "all grown up" yet because I'm getting excited about my birthday already (and it's in October!)
Back to the outfits- what girl doesn't look for the perfect outfit for her birthday. Seriously, starting in August, the sole purpose of my online shopping is a. for my birthday outfit or b. orange things to wear to Clemson games :)! Like I said previously, your birthday is all about you so it really is just not acceptable to not have on the perfect outfit whether you are three or twenty three years old!
Unfortunately, I can't help you pick out your outfit if you are anywhere over 7, but I CAN help you find the perfect outfit for your child's birthday! If you are like my mom, you go a tinyyyy bit camera crazy on birthdays! Picture 10 years from now, do you really want your son or daughter looking through old pictures from birthdays and saying "EW..why did you let me dress like that on my birthday"!? I didn't think so...Not to worry, we have you covered! :)

How cute are they!? The girls smocked-inset dress is made from a light pink gingham with a hand-smocked cupcake in the center while the boy's shortall is a light green gingham with a hand-smocked alligator wearing a birthday hat and balloons in the center!

Princesses and Planes!

What little girl does not dream about being a princess? Seriously, I haven't met one...whether it is Jasmine, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Mulan...WHOEVER...every little girl wants to be one! (My personal favorite was Jasmine). In fact, my favorite game when I was little was called Princess and the Servant. I was the princess (obviously), my dad was the prince, and my brother was the servant (it seems a bit sad looking back that he was the servant but that is what he always wanted to be- PROMISE!) We would pretend that the servant was coming after us and my dad and I would run away while my brother chased us all over the house. I seriously think we played this game every night until my brother finally decided that being the servant wasn't all that great :). The point is-for that one hour I really got to pretend to be a princess and I loved it. I mean, let's get real- I'm 23 and still woke up at 6 a.m. to obsess over Kate Middleton and the royal wedding (I guess some things never change!).

Great news for you (and the hubby)! Fortunately, you don't have to find someone to play servant and get chased all over the house to make your little girl feel like a princess...(unless you're into that kind of thing :). You can simply dress her in our PRINCESS line a.k.a. the fairy tale line (I prefer princess).

The best part is that you don't even have to have a favorite princess for this line! It includes three different princesses so everyone is happy :)! You can even take your pick of a traditional bishop dress, jumper, pant set, or bubble...so many choices that it almost gives me a little anxiety :).

Obviously, when we were brainstorming something to match for boys- we knew that'd we would have to get creative (thank goodness for Megan) because, honestly, princesses for boys probably wouldn't be the best seller. Ducks or princesses for little boys? I'm going with ducks! Not to worry though- Megan used her massive amount of talent/creativity and created the perfect matching design....

AIRPLANES! Now, I'm not a little boy, but I'm pretty sure all boys like airplanes! These outfits are the same light blue gingham as the fairy tale so they match perfectly (and he doesn't have to wear princesses!) I love the light blue and brown combination...I think it's so sweet (and manly at the same time:)!

On another note, we've been really moving into Pitt Street and it looks SO GOOD! We are hoping for an opening in the next few weeks...We will definitely keep everyone posted when we get an official date though!

Poodles and Pups!

I've always loved dogs. No offense to cats because I love them too, but dogs have something about them that just screams "play with me!". Now, don't get me wrong, I had a siamese cat growing up (her name was Sparkle Diamond Golden Shiver- don't judge...I was five!) and I loved her, but I also had two labs, Sara and Hallie, and my little mix, Jack, and they were definitely more fun to play with...although Hallie is quite overweight and not much of a player :) Then, as I moved onto Clemson University I lived with a great dane, Cooper, and a Bijon Frise, Max. So, obviously, I have lived with my fair share of dogs, but one thing that I did not know was the difference in "man dogs" and "girl dogs". When I say this, I don't mean whether the dog is a boy or girl, but what dogs are considered "girly dogs" and what dogs are considered "manly dogs". For example, Max the bijon frise is a considered a girly dog (even though he is a boy) and Sara the black lab is considered a manly dog (even though she is a girl)- weird, huh? When I asked one of my bosses, Pitts, why that was he responded that "the little dogs have no purpose! Man dogs are for hunting and fishing!"...does that mean that looking cute and snuggling are not purposes!? They are in my book! :)

Every fall, we try to do something with dogs. Last fall, we did chocolate labs that matched pink pigs for girls (it really was adorable)! This year, we've done something even better! I seriously cannot tell you how many emails I got last year with requests to make the lab longall BUT please use a black lab or yellow lab. So, we listened and this year we included ALL THREE!

Now, every one is happy! This brown gingham longall and bubble feature a smocking plate that includes a yellow, brown, and black lab! PERFECT!

Now that the boys are done, it's always a little tough figuring out what to do to match the girls. As I mentioned earlier- last year we did pink pigs, but we couldn't do the same thing again! So, as creative as Megan is, she came up with something that is seriously even cuter (I didn't even think it was possible)...

POODLES! Seriously, what dog is girlier than a poodle!? (maybe a bijon frise, but it's a tie..)
I absoutely love this line! To be honest, I have always had a little prejudice towards poodles. Growing up my aunt had a little black poodle named Fifi and she was so mean! (maybe it was because I was 5 years old and constantly messing with her..but I'm going with she was mean). I can't tell you how many times she snapped at me and, to be honest, that is the only real interaction I've ever had with poodles...until this dress! Once I saw the little pink poodles with the little puff-ball tail (it really is a 3-D puff!) on brown gingham, I knew I could quickly get over my bias. I think my favorite piece is the little romper! We don't have a picture, but it ties in the back with a hug pink gingham bow...so cute!

If you are a dog lover, this is the perfect line for you! Your little boy and hubby will love the "manly" labs while you and your little girl will love the pink "girly" poodles...Mid-July just can't come soon enough!

Manly Man!

I bet some of you are thinking, "enough about girls! What about my little boy?" I definitely will admit that it is easy to get carried away in the pink, ruffles, and bows that make little girl's smocked clothing so adorable. BUT, little boys are people too and it's not really fair that all this attention goes toward girls clothes and the boys are just completely ignored, right!? :)

I find that the reason that cute little boy clothing is hard to find is not because it's not there, but because we are so picky about what type of "cute" it is. Most people (especially dads) aren't too thrilled about their little boys wearing "girly" smocked clothing. They want their sons to be MANLY MEN with tractors and tools, right? I've definitely been privy to the "my son is NOT wearing that girly outfit" fight...and we have to wonder what they would prefer them to wear? Camoflauge? Jerseys?...No Thank you! In my opinion, camoflauge should be saved for the woods and jerseys saved for team sports (while actually playing only)! :)

Not to worry, we have something that will make you AND your hubby happy! Believe it or not, half of the six people at Shrimp and Grits Kids are actually men and thanks to their manly influence (you're welcome boys:) we are constantly coming up with awesome ideas for boys smocking plates. (When I say "we"..I mean Megan..I would like to take credit but creativity isn't really my thing!)

Obviously, I'm no expert on manliness, but in my opinion these tan ducks look pretty manly! What's manlier than hunting, right!? (no offense to female hunters- I wish I had the patience to sit in a stand for hours..but, as we all know, I definitely DON'T). The best part is that it is still hand-smocked and sweet. The light tan corduroy is perfect for Fall, isn't it?

Every season we try to do a line that is just for boys as well as one that is just for girls! Yesterday you saw the teapot collection and today the ducks! So, that's it! Everything else is all about matching!

Party Time!

Happy Monday! I don't know about y'all, but every Monday I seem to have a little case of the Monday Blues. Maybe it's the stress of the upcoming week or just the thought of the so anticipated weekend ALREADY being over/ five days away. Honestly, if it was up to me, I would just have Mondays disappear. I would be just fine starting every week on a Tuesday! (Tuesday is just a happier sounding word, don't you think?:)

Personally, I think that the best way to get over the blues is to plan or even just think about a PARTY! Anybody who knows me knows that I love to plan a party. I seriously find a reason to celebrate anything- birthday, half-birthday, going away, coming back, new haircut (kidding!)...but, in all seriousness, anything! Whereas some people find party planning stressful, I find it immensely exciting. It can be something as small as a dinner for four and I will strategically plan every single part from the original invitation (usually via evite) to the appetizers to where all four people will sit. In fact, I love to plan everything...which is why it makes perfect sense that one of my favorite things to do when I was little (besides watch the Wizard of Oz) was to have a TEA PARTY!

Seriously, what little girl does not love a tea party? In fact, I STILL love a good tea party (it is just not as socially acceptable to have one with dolls/stuffed animals at age 23 as it was at age 3...you have to actually invite REAL people :)! At first, everybody (including my brother) patiently dealt with the tea parties. Eventually, everyone tired of drinking fake tea, nibbling on plastic scones, and wearing dress up clothes. It also may have been the fact that I wouldn't let anyone else plan the party (I was definitely that bossy little girl...whoops :)!. I then resorted to my dolls (the two million of them) and my extremely patient cousin (thanks Lawren!). Actually, if you can believe it, my favorite outfit was an "I'm a little teapot" SWEATSUIT that my aunt gave me. I am positive that my poor mother would have loved this line when I was little so that we didn't have to fight about me actually wanting to wear a sweatsuit in public...EVERY day :)!

So, without further adieu, THE TEAPOT COLLECTION! Personally, I love how versatile this line is.

I love how you can dress a girl from age three months to eight using a variety of these because, seriously, do you ever get too old for a tea party? I think not!

The bubble runs from sizes 3m-24m while the bishop runs from 6m-8. If your little girl is more of a pants/skirt and top girl-the pants, skirts, and shirts start at 2t. The jumper starts at size 12m AND you get two in one! As pictured above, the jumper is reversible. One side is a hot pink corduroy fabric while the other side is brown corduroy (the bird side goes with the three little bird/fishing lure line- see blog from original fall 2011 preview:)!

Wonderful Wizard of OZ

EARLY FALL 2011 PREVIEW!!!

If you know me, you know that I am a little bit "excitable". The excitement I get over Megan's new designs is, admittedly, a little strange considering that I don't even have children, but oh well...it's never too early to start planning, right? ;). I know that I said that I would start the previews Monday, but I just couldn't wait. This is absolutely my favorite dress yet (although I am definitely a little biased).

If you ask my mother (or father or thoroughly annoyed brother), I was completely obsessed with the Wizard of Oz as a child. When I say obsessed, I mean that I watched the movie at least twice a day, dressed up as Dorothy for three Halloweens in a row (I'm sure that my brother loved having to be the lion, tin man, and scarecrow..I had to stop once we ran out of matching things for him to be :), and wore my hair in pigtails with red shoes EVERY DAY. (Confession: I still love red shoes!) ...Looking back, it seems a tad bit unhealthy..!

Luckily, Megan's youngest daughter, Lyla Gray, has the same obsession...that girl knows every word to "Over The Rainbow". For a while, her daily routine was to put on a Dorothy costume, get a black stuffed dog, and belt it out (it was pretty cute)! So, although I would like to say that Megan designed this for me, I know who she really had in mind..:).

Seriously? How adorable is this!? If it wasn't totally creepy, I'd buy one just hoping to have a daughter to wear it one day! So, if your daughter is as obsessed with Dorothy as I was and, like me, tries to wear the costume every single day...in PUBLIC (Sorry Mom!)...this is the perfect compromise!

Think this is great? I have something that makes it even better...ta-DA!...a matching boys outfit! (No, it doesn't have Dorothy on it :).

...It has TRUCKS! Every little boy loves trucks, right? (I know my brother would have definitely voted for trucks over a scarecrow costume). These outfits are made from the same blue gingham and color smocking to make them the perfect matching brother/sister outfits! This way, EVERYONE is happy (and, seriously, how often does that happen!?).

I feel as if I should go ahead and send out an apology for my lack of blogging this week (I'm sticking to my promise of at least three blogs a week- promise!)
In my defense...my excuse is pretty legit....

Since everything went on sale yesterday morning, we have been absolutely CRAZY here at Shrimp and Grits Kids! Now, when I say crazy, I mean it in the best way possible! We are talking hundreds and hundreds of orders...so exciting and flattering!..Buttt at the same time SO busy! We care about getting everyone's orders just right so we literally print them, pull them, and pack them up ourselves and by "ourselves" i mean the 5 of us who work here...crazy!

Don't fret though! Starting Monday I am going to go crazy with FALL 2011 PREVIEWS straight from the fall 2011 catalog that Mike is so diligently working on (it's going to be fantastic by the way! :) Doesn't it seem so crazy that we are ALREADY talking about Fall? It's 100 degrees outside! Well...the fall trunks will go out early July so it's actually NOT too early at all to start deciding on our fall wardrobe (I have definitely caught myself browsing through Fall boots online already!)

Anywho..back to the craziness of the sale!! I know everyone is patiently waiting for their orders :)!

Paisley Perfection

My goal is to blog about something exciting at Shrimp and Grits Kids every day. Realistically, it will probably end up being two or three times a week but a girl can dream, right? Anyway, Happy FRIDAY!! I know I am so excited about the upcoming long weekend. In my opinion, something about a holiday on Monday just makes the whole weekend more relaxing.

In the spirit of celebration I decided to surprise everyone with another FALL 2011 LINE sneak preview! I am absolutely obsessed with the paisley collection. I love how different and unique it is! Obviously, I love all of the traditional smocked items and I never met a bow or ruffle that I didn't love, but something about this paisley line draws me in. I love the soft colors. Fall can be such a dull season and these light pinks, blues, and greens bring a little sunshine to warm up the cooler air. Shrimp and Grits Kids is known for it's ease of mixing and matching. With all of the colors in the top you could match this pattern with light blue, green, or hot pink! My favorite is definitely the tunic with the brown boots...I would totally wear that. Don't even ask though- I already asked Megan to make me one in my size and I was denied. Rude :).

For all of you traditional people, not to worry, this paisley line includes a traditional smocked bishop dress. For everyone trying to mix it up a little bit (no harm in living a little, right?) try the paisley pants, tunic, skirt, or top. I'm obsessed with all of them. I want a five year old JUST to dress them in the tunic and boots...butttt unfortunately, since I don't even have children and wouldn't even describe myself as being in the mid-twenties yet, I might have a little while to wait. Darn. I guess I will live vicariously through Megan. :)

Keep a lookout for more sneak peaks of the Fall 2011 line. It honestly might be my favorite line yet...we have so many new and different styles and designs that I'm constantly wondering how Megan comes up with them (I would be lying if 22 hours a day I wasn't insanely jealous of her creativity!)

Pitt Street Paradise

In my opinion, their is something gratifying about online shopping. Browsing through the options at your leisure, adding it to your cart, clicking the "checkout" button, and, finally, tracking your items daily (okay-maybe several times a day) gives me a sense of power over what I buy. Online shopping has no pesky employees following you around to give you that feeling that if you walk out without buying anything you are subsequently a bad person...hence buying something that I absolutely do not need. I can close the screen on an online store and feel just dandy. Although, admittedly, many nights at home are spent browsing online for things I may or may not need (it depends on who you ask :), one of the absolute WORST feelings is when that anticipated package arrives and it is NOTHING like you thought it would be. Then, with feelings of sadness and remorse, you have to pack it back up and pay to send it back. It's enough to ruin a perfectly good morning! Not to worry, Shrimp and Grits Kids is here to save the day!

TA-DAAAAAA....Pitt Street Store Opening!!! Now, give us a little credit. We are not done yet and you should have seen this place before! It will be absolutely adorable when we finish (Duh!). We seriously cannot wait. Honestly, I have a countdown in my planner counting down the days until we can move in! (a bit obsessive, I know.) It is going to exude the essence of Shrimp and Grits Kids. The small, sweet, southern feel, classic lines, pastel colors...everything that southerners love about smocked clothes and atmosphere! The best part? The location! Have you been to Pitt Street in Mt Pleasant? It is so cute and quaint- the PERFECT place for Shrimp and Grits Kids and, I will admit, that I would be a liar if I said that I wasn't a little too excited about being so close to Village Bakery, Pitt Street Pharmacy, and Out of Hand. I'm already practicing how to pace myself. Maybe I'll only eat Village Bakery twice a week but, seriously, who am I kidding?

Okay, enough about eating. Let's move on to the smocked clothes! All of our inventory will be in stock as well as sale items. How great will it be to be able to walk in, buy something, and wear it the same day? We even promise that we won't stalk around making you feel guilty if you don't buy anything! Going to the beach? Need a new bather? Great idea! Stop by Shrimp and Grits Kids to pick one up! Impromptu party (my favorite kind) and need something for your little one to wear (and look adorable)? Confession: I don't know if you have been to our current warehouse location, but for the past few weeks we have been using a porta-potty (see below)... not exactly ideal. Porta-potties should be reserved for football games and, even then, I prefer to go inside the stadium. Thank goodness the dog days are over (or close to over!) and we will have the pleasure of a real bathroom...with a sink and everything! :)

We will, of course, keep you updated about the store opening date! We are aiming for early to mid June so keep a look out!

Memorial Day Madness

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEK!!

I don't know about y'all, but I see Memorial Day as a mini, low-key 4th of July a.k.a. the perfect occasion to fire up the grill, make some apps, and have a back yard bbq with friends and family! I know that I have one scheduled on my calendar and I seriously cannot wait! Other than the great food (I'm making fruit salad!), drinks (fruity cocktails, anyone?), and company- the other most important thing is what to wear! :) Memorial Day just screams for adorable pictures of matching brothers and sisters playing in the back yard, sitting on the beach, making a sand castle, or munching down on corn on the cob! Unfortunately, we can't help dress you (unless you just feel the need to ask us for advice- we always love a good chat about fashion) BUT, not to worry, we can dress the rest of your family! (minus the hubby-he might not appreciate a shortall! :)

As much as we, at Shrimp and Grits Kids, absolutely love the hot summer days; their is something exhilarating about the crisp, clean air of fall. Who doesn’t love spring and summer! At Shrimp and Grits Kids, we spend all winter waiting for sunshine, lazy beach days, afternoon BBQs and Frogmore stew, the 4^th of July, and picnics! Nothing gets us more excited than our adorable spring/summer line coming in and even though we know how wonderfully hot and sticky it can be, especially here in Charleston,SC, we believe that there is no reason not to look absolutely adorable!

We are so excited about the new, exciting, and unique features of this line. Although we always keep our hand smocked pieces classic, this season we added fun features like big bow back tops, ruffle bloomers, and new styles to suit every child. We couldn’t imagine a summer beach trip without the perfect jonjon, bishop, and bubble and, this season, we have all the designs and fabrics that will make your little one the cutest one around.

Every southerner knows that seersucker is the ultimate summer fabric. It is light and cool while also being impossibly adorable. Our hand-smocked bees and daisies bishop and bubble, hand-smocked lobster dress and bow back top, and hand-smocked alligator bishop and bubble could not be cuter or more comfortable for those hot summer days. At Shrimp and Grits Kids, we would never forget about little boys..We love NOTHING more than adorable matching brother/sister outfits. After the excitement of summer begins to die down, it is only replaced by the smell and feel of fall. Who doesn’t love the pumpkin patch, apple orchards, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and putting on that special outfit for the first day of school? And that’s just to name a few of the exciting things going on in the fall…not to mention Christmas and football games!

Even though we feel like summer has JUST started, the new fall line will be available on-line and in trunk shows starting July 7th. We are so excited about this line with precious outfits for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and any other fun occasion! Just because it is not summer anymore doesn't mean we shouldn't wear cute smocked clothing! It's never too early to start buying new clothes for the start of school and fall!

New for Spring

I want to start showing off our spring line. We should be getting our first spring shipment in later next week and hope to have it up online by the following week. It really is such a cute line. I want to introduce the "sailboat" designs- one of my favorite of the season. We have the sailboat bishop dress, smocked sailboat shortall, sailboat bishop short/bloomer set, applique sailboat jon jon, applique dress, and applique sailboat t shirt and shorts for bigger boys. They will be the perfect 4th of July outfits and last all summer. I love outfits that do double duty!

Working on our first Catalog!

Well we are so excited! This spring Shrimp and Grits Kids will be publishing it's first catalog. Mike Meehan is our photographer extraordinaire and he is also laying it all out. He really is multitalented. We have been shooting all over Charleston and I'll be posting pics as we edit them. I am so excited about our spring line. We will be debuting some smocked sailboats, smocked frogs and a new smocked alligator! Cant wait to show them!

Shrimp and Grits Kids First Fashion Show

Shrimp and Grits Kids was a part of the Fashion for Paws fashion show to support the Charleston Animal Society. We had 6 little models strut their stuff down the runway and show off the smocked pumpkin bishop, the smocked christmas tree bishop and longall, the smocked labs, smocked carousel bubble, the appliqued cupcake jumper and the appliqued hot cocoa pant set. They were fabulous!

I had to share this picture! How adorable are these little ones wearing thier Shrimp and Grits Kids. They are sporting the Whale Watching Bubble and Shortall and the Edisto Alligator Bubble and Short Set. These were my top sellers last spring, and I am going to miss the Edisto Alligator smocking plate which I just retired. I have designed a new alligator smocking plate that you all will love. Can't wait to post the spring line. It is too cute!!!

What a great weekend- I feel like fall is here! I've seen a lot of pumpkins popping up on peoples' front porches, so it is time to put that Pumpkin Bishop Dress on! Oh and don't forget about the Pumpkin and Tractor Longall. Well the weekend is over and Mondays are always our busiest day of the week. Right now we are catching up on exchanges and finishing up shipping our last Fall shows' orders. I am really getting in to this blogging thing. I'll be back tomorrow- hopefully!

My First Blog Post!

Wow- this is exciting, my first blog post! I always said I didn't have enough time to have a blog, but now that I have it set up, I really don't think it will be too hard. My mission with this blog is to keep everyone updated on what is going on with our smocked kids clothing business, Shrimp and Grits Kids. I figured this would be a great way to do it! We are winding up the smocked clothing home shows for fall 2009. What a great trunk show season- so great in fact that we ran out of some sizes of certain styles- yikes. The reversible appliqued tractor and appliqued santa longall and the reversible jumper with the appliqued pumpkin and appliqued santa were my top sellers by far. Who knew!! Next fall season expect a ton of reversibles! The smocked labs, smocked christmas pajamas and smocked pumpkin bishop dress were also great sellers this season. I just want to thank all of my dedicated sales reps and hostesses- yall are amazing! I always say this, but if it weren't for you Shrimp and Grits Kids would not exist. Thanks again!
